You would think it would be a no-brainer, driving slowly and carefully through the parking garages and parking lots in town. But no, it’s not. Far from it. Driving through the carefully planned parking spaces in Great Neck should be a pleasant experience; we should all feel so fortunate to have more spots than most realize available throughout the peninsula. But navigating our vehicles through municipal lots and garages can be a tricky feat. And walking in those garages and lots can too often be a particularly harrowing experience.
The problem, of course, is simply the drivers. I don’t know where drivers get the idea that they are on an “Indy 550” course in town, but they are definitely not on a racetrack. It is just common sense to be a careful driver, obeying driving laws. And driving in parking areas, well, again, it is just a no-brainer to know to drive very carefully, very slowly through parking garages and parking lots—s uddenly moving cars and people, yes, people, abound in these areas. And if you don’t want an accident, please drive with extreme caution.
Do not race to a parking spot! Do not zoom out of the facility when it is time to go home! And please, please do keep an eye out for pedestrians as well as drivers!
It can be a real free-for-all out on our roads and in our parking facilities. Try to be one who puts an end to our “dangerous parking.”
