Friday, 17 February 2012 00:00As we cover meeting after meeting, event after event, in Great Neck, we find ourselves more and more interested, increasingly involved in all that goes on around us. We have a pretty wonderful community, with so many, many people working so hard to keep us all happy, safe and well cared for. Yet one thing is sorely missing —- commitments and work from a healthy portion of our younger residents (those in their 20s and 30s particularly).
There is so much to be done, and truly, so much fun to be had when you dive in and volunteer. Whether you choose to work for a local non-profit or your child’s school or village/town government, it doesn’t matter. As a matter of fact, why not start with one and try a few more in time. When someone asks why some people are featured so often in the Great Neck Record, well the answer is quite simple: these are the people, the same ones over and over again, who give of themselves to maintain the wonderful quality of life we enjoy here on the Great Neck peninsula. Why not place yourself forward too!
We especially urge our younger residents to please try to find the time to step up to the plate and volunteer your time and energy. You are the ones who should be the architects of your own future and the future of Great Neck is yours to carve. And not to overlook the fact that you are the examples for the next generation; your children will follow you.
Find an interest and make your mark on your very own Great Neck community. We need you … and, in fact, you need all of us too!
Make a difference! You won’t regret it!
