We were a family once

with a crib and a rocking chair,

two bicycles with child seats

on the back,

the first baseball catch,

and a dozen soccer balls,

PTA meetings and report cards,

awards at graduation,

blue caps and gowns

hanging silently in the hall closet,

vacation photos on the wall…

Now empty chairs gather dust

around the dining room table,

our  “How was your day?”

is an email subject line,

and we count the months

til Thanksgiving

2012.
