The Great Neck Record encourages the public to submit press releases and photos from local events and local people. We love to hear from you; we love to share your news with the community. And we are most appreciative of all of the local municipalities and agencies (the school district, the library, the park district, local television programming, etc.) that regularly send us wonderful columns and stories of their events.
However, there are some rules and guidelines that must be followed in order for your submissions to be published.
First and foremost, we can only accept digitally submitted articles and photographs. Please be sure all articles are in a Word attachment and all photographs in a jpg or tif attachment.
Additionally, we could use your help in the actual writing and editing. We do have to spend a great deal of time editing and processing all of these releases, much more time than should be necessary. There are professional journalism “styles” that we must follow and guidelines we always use. We know that everyone who wants to share some news cannot possibly know all these “rules,” but we do ask that everyone who regularly sends press releases to the Record to please check the paper after your article is published. See what we have corrected — i.e., do not abbreviate days of the week, but do abbreviate multi-syllable months; do not capitalize a.m. and p.m.; italicize books, magazines, newspapers and such; never use “bold face;” and never underline.
We ask that all of our professionals in the community please cooperate and check your articles once they are in print. We do appreciate this effort.
Thank you to everyone who thinks of the Record!
