Legislator Judi Bosworth: Voter Participation in Coliseum Referendum Is Critical

Nassau County Legislator Judi Bosworth (D-Great Neck) urges all registered voters to participate in the important Monday, Aug. 1 referendum which shall establish “the Nassau County Hub Area development program.” This referendum seeks voter authorization for the county to borrow and spend up to $400 million solely for the construction of projects in the Hub Area including a new Nassau Coliseum, a minor league baseball stadium and other projects. The borrowing of this money will lead to a property tax increase of $58 per household each year for 30 years.

Legislator Bosworth stated: “This referendum represents a significant commitment of taxpayer dollars. I urge all residents to vote in the August 1, 2011 referendum and have their voices heard. If you are going to be away on vacation, business or are unable to vote at your regular polling place you are entitled to vote by absentee ballot.”

Registered voters who anticipate being unavailable on August 1 should apply for their absentee ballot as soon as possible. Completed ballots must be submitted or postmarked before Aug.1.

Applications for absentee ballots can be obtained by writing to, or visiting, the Nassau County Board of Elections, 240 Old Country Road, 5 Floor, Mineola, NY 11501. Applications are also available online at For more information, please call the Board of Elections at 571-2411. As always, feel free to call Legislator Bosworth’s office at 571-6210.

“I can’t stress enough the importance of all residents participating in this important referendum. I strongly urge all voters to participate in this vital decision-making process. Remember, if you can’t get to the polls on Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, you must submit your application as soon as possible in order to receive an absentee ballot in time and ensure that your voice is heard,” said Legislator Bosworth.
