Jeffie L. Flowers, 85 son of Lesler Lloyd Flowers and Leila (Williams) Flowers, passed away on Christmas, Dec. 25, 2009.

From Alabama, Jeff graduated from the USMMA in Kings Point, NY, and played on their first football team. He served as a Lieutenant JG in the Merchant Marine and Naval Reserve, protecting shipping during and after WWII. He worked as a carpenter and contractor, running his own construction business in Great Neck, retiring to Slaughter Beach, DE, Muncie, IN, and eventually Garner, NC.

Jeff served as a Grand Knight and Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, as Exalted Ruler in the BPOE, and as a member of the board of trustees in Great Neck. He was a scoutmaster for his first son’s scouting pack, and a head football coach for his second son’s team.

Jeff was a kind and generous soul, and the many lives he touched will carry his gifts. He is survived by his beloved wife and partner of 64 years, Frances (Binkiewicz) Flowers. Fran and Jeff have four children, Rev. Christine F. Reed of Princeton, NJ, Marie Haulenbeek, married to Walter Haulenbeek, of Garner, NC, Jeff Flowers, married to Kathy McCune, of Dickerson, MD, and Jim Flowers, married to Annette Rose, of Muncie, IN. He leaves behind eight grandchildren: Pheobe Reed, Alicia Reed, Gabrielle Reed, Kishor Haulenbeek, James Haulenbeek, Emily Flowers, Sebastian Flowers, and Loretta Rose, and one great-grandchild, Seamus Haulenbeek. Jeff was predeceased by his brothers, Luther Flowers, Emmett Flowers, George Flowers and Robert Flowers, and by his sister Myrtle Booher. He is survived by his brother, David Flowers, and his sisters, Earlene Young and Annie Smith.

Arrangements were made by the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. A Mass was held at St. Mary Mother of the Church Catholic Church in Garner, NC.
