Russell Gardens Trustee Harriet Surks Dies
Russell Gardens Trustee Harriet Surks died on Nov. 19. Ms. Surks had fought a year-long battle with cancer. She was eulogized at a funeral at Nassau North Chapel in Great Neck Plaza on Nov. 20.
Harriet Surks was a longtime activist in the community, and served as treasurer of the Great Neck Village Officials Association for four years. In addition, she was elected for six terms as a trustee of the Village of Russell Gardens, from April 1997 until April 2009. As a resident of Russell Gardens for over 40 years, she was dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of the village trees, as well as maintaining the quality of life for all the residents.
Surviving Harriet Surks are two daughters, Dina and Laura, grandchildren, nephews and their families. Every person who knew her, loved her, and we will miss her bright smile, vivacious personality, and infectious laugh.
