Audrey Lane Laufer, 88, of Great Neck and Newport Beach, CA, passed away on Dec. 5, 2011. She is survived by her daughters, Eve Laufer of San Jose, CA, and Joanne Laufer Milo (Richard) of Corona del Mar, CA, her grandchildren, David, Scott, Catherine (Jonathan), her great-granddaughter, Vivienne Rose, sister Joan Kauff, nephew James.
Born in New York on Feb. 20, 1923, Audrey was a member of All City Choir, attended Erasmus Hall High School, earned her B.A. from Brooklyn College and later, completed her MA.Ed from Adelphi University.
Her parents were David Daniel Levinson (a graduate of CCNY and Columbia University Law School), an attorney, a three-time all-American water polo player and one of eight founders of the first Jewish fraternity, Sigma Alpha Mu, and Violet Steiner Levinson, also an attorney (and a graduate of Cornell University and Brooklyn College of Law).
Audrey married Alfred Laufer, after meeting on the ice skating rink in the Catskills…and shortly thereafter started her family, with two lovely daughters, Eve and Joanne.
She was active in community activities in Thomaston, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy Museum, the Japan Society and Temple Emmanuel. She was often seen driving around town in her 1970 Cadillac convertible - white with red interior, top down!
She moved to Newport Beach, CA, in 2008 to be closer to her family. She charmed all who met her. The family is most appreciative of the loving care by Caroline Mwai, Crystal Brice and Eunice Matikinyidze and the staff of Vitas Innovative Hospice.
At Audrey’s request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please perform an act of kindness for some else or make a contribution to your favorite charity or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
