Sonia Cohen, 92, longtime Great Neck resident and piano teacher, died on
March 11, 2011. She was the much-loved wife of Joseph A. for 71 years, mother of Andrew, Beth and David, mother-in-law of Linda Cohen, and grandmother of Lauren Van Zuiden, Stephanie Cohen, Chad Cohen, Kevin Cohen and Chaya Cohen.

During her 50 years of residence in Great Neck, she taught a large number of Great Neck children to love music and to play the piano. She was a member of the Association of Piano Teachers of Long Island for many years. She also taught music at Head Start for many years.
She was a composer of piano music, and after a massive stroke in 1996, composed many piano works for one hand. She also became a watercolor artist with her left hand with the help of master artist Arline Michaelson of Great Neck. Her paintings have been exhibited at the Great Neck Library and The Graphic Eye in Port Washington. Sonia was gentle, kind, beautiful, and fought courageously to live a normal post-stroke life. She will be greatly missed.
