George Nicholas Christie, economist, of Great Neck, died on Oct. 12, 2010. He was born Nov. 2, 1924 in Wilmington, NC. Husband of Mary. Father of Sultana (Clifford) Malmgren, Stephanie (Mark) Antonucci, Susan (Marc) Solomon, Gregory (Melanie) Christie and the late Sandra. Grandfather of Pamela (Patrick), Michelle, Jonathan, Rachel, Sarah, Andrew, Gray, Boden and great-grandson Harrison.
He earned BBA from the University of Miami, 1948, an MBA from New York University, 1956, and a Ph.D., 1963. He held positions at Dun and Bradstreet, National Association of Credit Management, American Bankers Association and Credit Research Foundation where he retired as executive vice president. An associate professor at LIU, he also lectured at Dartmouth College, Stanford and Rutgers Universities. He was a principal author of the Credit Executives Handbook as well as many professional articles.
A veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, he continued to serve until honorably discharged in 1966 with the rank of major. He was a Free Mason (past master) and Shriner (past potentate and recorder emeritus).
