A persistent rumor has been circulating in the Village of Great Neck. People were upset after hearing that the village had begun requiring $100 building permits for painting the exterior of houses and was also setting limits on exterior colors.
We called Village of Great Neck Mayor Ralph Kreitzman about the issue. He stated: “That’s just not true. We don’t require building permits for repainting houses. I have spoken with the building department and we can’t figure out how such a rumor could have gotten started.”
The mayor went on to explain that if major work was going on at a house, such as an extension, which would need a building permit, the architectural review committee might inquire about exterior colors.
When in doubt about the possible of a building permit, , a quick call to the building department is advised.
