Village Green Trees: Goodbye and Hello

Although it was sad to see the trees, irreparably damaged during this summer’s rampaging storm, felled in the Village Green last week, it was uplifting to see new trees being planted to provide shade, majesty and beauty for all to enjoy in the coming years. Park district commissioners Ruth Tamarin, Robert Lincoln and Ivar Segalowitz have been consulting with Gibney Design Landscape Architecture PC and the public to arrive at a two-stage plan to bring new life to the beloved park.

The trees planted this fall are listed below and in the spring more will be planted.

If more than one tree of a species was planted, it will be noted. Legacy Sugar Maple, Shadblow, Fort McNair Red Horsechestnut, Autumn Blaze Maple, Paperbark Maple, Upright European Hornbeam, Forest Pansy Redbud (4), Katsuratree, Hackberry, Yellowwood, Maidenhair Tree (5), Autumn Gold Maidenhair Tree, Goldenrain Tree, Tall Crepe Myrtle (3), Amur Maackia (3), Dawn Redwood, Persian Parrotia, Yoshino Cherry (3), Millstone Japanese Pagoda Tree, Stewartia (3), Japanese Tree Lilac (4), Bald Cypress, Valley Forge Elm, Alle Lacebark Elm, Green Vase Zelkova.
