Killing Kasztner: The Jew Who Dealt With Nazis

The documentary film will be shown at Clearview Squire Cinemas; 115 Middle Neck Rd. Unrated, 116 minutes. Director Gaylen Ross. Rezso Kasztner, known as the Jewish Schindler, negotiated face to face with Adolf Eichmann, rescuing 1700 Jews on a train to Switzerland. Yet Kasztner was condemned as a traitor in his adopted country of Israel; accused as a collaborator in a trial and verdict that divided a nation and forever stamped him as the “man who sold his soul to the devil.”

Project Independence will host two support groups, one for the bereaved and another for caregivers, on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at the Great Neck Senior Center, 80 Grace Ave. The support groups will be offered every second and fourth Thursday of each month offering emotional support from others grieving a loss, the bereavement support group will help attendees cope with physical, mental and emotional effects of grief. Weekday Bike Rides

Area bicyclists meet for friendly weekday bike rides at Fredericks Luncheonette located at the intersection of Bond St. and Grace Ave., at 6:15 a.m. or 6:15 p.m. The ride lasts a minimum of 1 hour, 15 minutes and is geared to riders who can average about 13 M.P.H., so when completed you would have traveled about 16 miles. Routes and speed vary according to the group. NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence

The Coalition is a member agency of the Garden City Community Fund, United Community Fund of Great Neck, Community Chest of Port Washington and United Way of LI. The following is offered:

•Elder abuse. If you are 60 or older and are being hurt by someone who should be caring, you are not alone. If you are suffering from abuse, mistreatment or neglect at the hands of family members or someone who is living with you, help is available. The Coalition offers counseling, legal advocacy and support services to seniors in need of help. All services are free and confidential. Call 542-0404.

•Provides support groups with individual counseling for incest survivors and survivors of rape and sexual assault. Services are confidential and free of charge. These services are also extended to family members and partners of survivors. The Coalition also works to ensure societal accountability, improve institutional responsiveness to victims and increase public awareness in order to prevent domestic violence, rape and sexual assault. •A Safe Home. The Coalition operates a safe home for battered women and their children. For women who are victims of violent relationships, safety is a major concern. The Coalition’s Safe Home for Abused Families provides shelter, advocacy and legal assistance, in a safe, warm, supportive, attractive environment. If you or someone you know needs help, call the Coalition’s 24-hour hotline 542-0404. The hotline and all services are free and confidential and a counselor can help you find safety.

•The Coalition is seeking individuals to volunteer in its “Hands Are Not for Hitting,” an exciting domestic violence prevention program for elementary school children in kindergarten through 2nd grade. Volunteers will be fully trained and need to be available several weekdays a month during the school year. Volunteers must provide their own transportation. •Employment opportunities for anyone over the age of 16 are available for recreation attendants and qualified life guards at GN Estates pool, park and tennis facility. Applications are available at Village Hall.

•Pool-Tennis-Boat Membership. GN Estates residents can come and enjoy a beautiful park, pool, tennis and boating facilities. Sign up in person at Village Hall between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or by mail. Your previous membership card can be updated or a recent photo of each person n the family is required with membership fee.

Parenting Skills Groups

Park District Indoor Skateboard Park Hours

The Great Neck Park District’s indoor skateboard park is located at the Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink at Parkwood and open as follows: Wednesday, 3 to 6 p.m.; Friday, 3 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 10 to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 10 to 5 p.m. Admission to the skateboard park is $4, but only $2 with a park card. Equipment is available for rental for $3. All skateboarders must complete a liability release form (parent must be present) prior to using the skateboard park.

Great Neck Weekend Softball
