Nassau North Chapter open meeting at 11 a.m. at the Great Neck Library, Bayview Ave. We’ve come a long way baby but there is still a potent future ahead and in that future much for women to overcome politically and socially. The committee presents Katherine Kleeman, senior communications officer at Eagleton Institute of Politics and its Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University. The group focuses attention on how contemporary political systems work and how they can improve. The North Shore Hebrew Academy Elementary and High Schools, in conjunction with the greater Great Neck Jewish community, will celebrate the completion of 12 new Sifrei Torah. The celebration is the culmination of the Sam Aharonoff Shivtei Torah Campaign and all proceeds will go to the Sam Aharonoff Memorial Scholarship Fund. The gathering and procession will take place in two locations at 9:30 a.m. - one at the corner of Middle Neck Rd. and Old Mill Rd. and the second at Polo Rd., between William and Florence Sts. In case of rain, there will be no procession. The official program will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the Great Neck Synagogue, 26 Old Mill Rd. (followed by entertainment, dancing and light fare. Founded in 1979 by a group of women reflecting the Women’s Movement whose avowed purpose is to help women at various points in their lives when they need assistance and support. The goal of Womanspace is to provide a place where women gather to share concerns about their changing roles in society. A wide range of community conferences have involved such institutions as Hofstra University, Queens College and Great Neck Adult Education covering such issues as: Health, Global Feminism, Building An Intergenerational Community and a Multi-Ethnic Conference. Memoir writing has also become a popular activity giving women the opportunity to express themselves in a literary fashion. Meetings are held every Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Great Neck Senior Center, 80 Grace Ave., Great Neck. Call 829-6566.
