Promenade night returns to Bond Street as the Great Neck Plaza Business Improvement District (BID) and the Village of Great Neck Plaza invite local residents and visitors to an evening of fine dining and live entertainment on Bond Street. Promenade Night will feature a variety of fine dining options Great Neck Plaza has to offer in a unique outdoor café environment. The promenade event begins at 6:30 p.m. and will continue until 10:30 p.m. In addition to outdoor café style dining, a karaoke competition will take place from 8:30 until 10:30 p.m.
Ron Gross hosts the next Socrates Salon to discuss whether we are over-confident or too self- critical, at 3 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue. Think about several provocative questions recently posed by New York Times columnist David Brooks (and review answers submitted by readers), including: “A generation after the feminist revolution, are women, on average, less confident than men?” Copies of Brooks’ column will be available at the Library Reference Information Desk.
The Board of Commissioners of the Great Neck Park District will hold a work session meeting at the Park District Office, 5 Beach Road, in the Village of Great Neck, at 9 a.m.
The Great Neck Public Schools Board of Education will hold a public action meeting at 8 p.m. at the Phipps Administration building at 345 Lakeville Road. This is the board’s organizational meeting. Info: 441-4001.
The Village of Great Neck Plaza presents Paul ‘Shilts’ Weimar performing at 8 p.m., at Firefighters’ Park (Jon’s Park) on Grace Avenue. In the case of inclement weather, the concert performance will be moved to the Great Neck Senior Center (80 Grace Avenue). Check with village staff or call voicemail after 5 p.m. at (516) 482-4500. There will also be an announcement on the village website, www.greatneckplaza.net, in the case of inclement weather.
REAP, retired, energetic, active, professionals meet every Tuesday at the Cumberland School, 30 Cumberland Avenue. This week the board meeting is 9 to 10 a.m. Come socialize at 10 a.m. and attend the business meeting at 10:30 a.m. Estelle Reichman will discuss a timely matter during “My Opinion.” At 10:45 a.m. the main presentation will be “Pedestrian Safety” with Chari Biton from the North Hempstead Department of Services for the Aging. Refreshments are served. At 12:30 p.m. Bernie Saper will lead the current events roundtable.
The next Great Neck Library matinee film will be shown at 2 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library at 159 Bayview Avenue. Please refer to the library newsletter, film brochures and website for information on the films scheduled. Priority seating is given to Great Neck residents. Bring your Great Neck Library card, driver’s license or other ID containing your Great Neck School District address. Non-residents will be seated if space permits 10 minutes before the film begins. At 8 p.m. the Great Neck Park District’s Steppingstone Park July 4th Concert will feature The Band of Long Island, with Michael Flamhaft conducting. The concert will include traditional and classical musical arrangements. The concert is free for all Great Neck Park District residents with a park card.
The Great Neck Park District continues to offer Empire Safety Council Defensive Driving Classes at Great Neck House. There will be a class on Saturday, July 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. To sign up for a class or for more information, call Great Neck House at 482-0355.
