Na’aleh Women’s Ensemble

Presents “Songs of Love in the Air.” Yiddish, Ladino and Hebrew music. Music of the Halutz, the Kibbutz, Sepharad and Broadway (including a medley from Fiddler on the Roof) performed by the Na’aleh Women’s Ensemble, a vocal ensemble accompanied by piano, cello and flute, is on the program at the Na’aleh Spring Concert. Na’aleh singers come from Long Island and Queens and rejoice in singing music of the rich Jewish musical heritage. They are conducted by Richard Whitten and accompanied by Guy Brewer, piano, Tracy Klirs, cello and Ruth Seif, flute. 3 p.m. at Temple Israel of Great Neck, 108 Old Mill Rd. Tickets cost $18 each.

Education And Excellence Panel Discussion

SHAI (Sephardic Heritage Alliance, Inc.) and UPTC (United Parent Teacher Council) will present an important panel conversation entitled, “A Conversation on Community, Child-raising, Choices and Consequences: What are some of the unintended consequences of expectations of excellence?” Panel participants are each well known to the Great Neck community and include Monique Saphin Bloom, Dr. Thomas Dolan, Monsignor Brendan P. Riordan and Rabbi Howard A. Stecker. The panel conversation will be moderated by SHAI VP Rebecca Yousefzadeh Sassouni, a parent of four students in the Great Neck Public schools. The program will begin with opening remarks by each member of the panel, followed by a conversation among the panelists as well as an opportunity for members of the community to pose questions to the participants. The program will be held at Great Neck North Middle School at 7:30 p.m. The community is welcome. Refreshments provided by SHAI.

Upland Block Party Fundraiser

The Third Annual Upland Block Party will take place to raise funds for the Great Neck Breast Cancer Coalition. Rain date is June 3. There will be delicious food, musical performances by local talent, zumba dancing, fun activities for young children and great vendors with affordable merchandise. This year the Block Party offers a special, fun feature. Two experienced psychics will be available to do readings for patrons: Psychic Marie and her colleague Maria D’Andrea. The fee for their readings will be $20 for 10 minutes. They can accommodate overtime for a reading. There will also be more than 50 raffle prizes including coupons for local restaurants, clothing stores, jewelry and more. Artist Gladys Goldberg On Display

Renowned Great Neck artist Gladys Goldberg will have her artwork displayed in the Village of Great Neck Plaza courtroom gallery as part of the Plaza’s monthly art exhibit. Members of the public are invited to come and meet the artist and view her work. The show is free and open to the public. Gladys’ work will be on display through May 30 during village office hours, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

•Israeli Folk Dance Night with renowned folk dance instructor Danny Uziel. Beginners welcome. For the first 30 minutes Danny will instruct, then move to some more intermediate dances for everyone to enjoy.
