The Great Neck PAL lacrosse team began its 2009 season with a well played 8-3 loss to neighboring New Hyde Park. "This year's team is a terrific mix of returning sixth-graders and rookie fifth-graders," said Artie Diamond, coach and PAL lacrosse director. "Our returning first midfield of Dan Doreste, Andrew Voigt and Robbie Tantillo are the best we have ever had," Diamond said, "they are really fun to watch and are as good as anyone in the league."
While the team plays 8 games against programs from all over the island, Diamond emphasized that the program does not focus on the wins and losses but rather emphasizes teaching fundamentals and having fun. "This league is great for programs like us because there are no standings, no records, no play offs-just play lacrosse and have a good time."
Newcomers making a contribution are Jack Diamond, assisted this year by coaches Robert Tantillo and Sam Straussman.
