As she helped her team clinch second place at this year's Ivy League Fencing Championships, Columbia Lion freshman Stephanie Aiuto (Great Neck North High School, Class of 2008) tied with Harvard's Caroline Vloka for first place in individual woman's sabre. Her 16-2 finish earned Aiuto All Ivy first team Honors. Aiuto also boasted Columbia's top individual record for both the men's and women's teams. Although Aiuto enjoyed being a member of Great Neck North's Championship women's fencing team for many years she is having an even better time at college. "It's fun being part of this team," first-year sabre fencer Stephanie Aiuto said. "The entire team cheers for you. I hear everyone (when I'm on) the fencing strip. Hearing everyone being positive really helps you. It gives you confidence!" Next up for Aiuto and the Columbia fencing team was the Intercollegiate Fencing Association Championships at Brandeis University on Feb. 28.
