Kathryn MacKay Shields passed away at her home in Greenport on Jan. 5, 2009. She was 99 years old. She was a long-time resident of Great Neck, Hampton Bays and Southold. Kathryn graduated from the New England Conservatory of Dramatic Arts and performed in Shakespearian theatre. She was active in the Girl Scouts in Great Neck for many years and managed the thrift shop of the Hampton Bays United Methodist Church. Mother of Eleanor Anderson, Dorothy Gilliar and Marion Maino; grandmother of 11; great-grandmother of 27. The family received friends on Jan. 7 at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home, Southold, where religious services were conducted by Rev. Dr. Peter J. Kelley. Interment followed at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Southold Youth Group, P.O. Box 787, Southold, New York 11971.
