On Monday, Sept. 29, more than 220 golf enthusiasts convened at the world-famous Winged Foot Golf Club to swing their clubs in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York.

Now in its 12th year, this Golf Outing, presented by The Donaldson Organization, continues to be a significant fundraising event, raising more than $540,000 to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The steady success of this event is due, in great part, to the tireless efforts and support of Bob Donaldson, a member of the board of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York and president of The Donaldson Organization.

Participating "power golfers" this year included famous New York Islander player Clark Gillies, as well as other members of the philanthropic elite like Stewart Rahr, president and CEO of Kinray, Inc. and Michael Senter, CEO, ABCO Refrigeration Supply Corp.

The event would not have been complete without the presence of a former wish kid and her family. The heartfelt words of Wish kid Chelsea's dad, Dennis, reminded everyone of the lasting, positive impact of a wish - not only on the child, but on the entire family.

The mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. The Metro New York chapter, which serves the five boroughs of New York City and Nassau County, Long Island began in 1983 and is headquartered in Lake Success with a field office in Manhattan. Since its founding, the Metro New York chapter has granted more than 7,000 wishes. In Fiscal Year 2008, we touched the lives of a record number of 778 wish children and their families by granting 500 wishes for local children and by facilitating 278 wish assists for children who reside in other areas, but whose wishes took place in New York - that's one wish every 11 hours, making Metro New York one of the most active chapters in the national network of 67 Make-A-Wish chapters across the country.
