Gail was complaining that there was no space left in any of our closets. So I reminded her about the three-year rule. Anything we haven't worn in three years, we either give to one of our kids or donate to charity.
We started with my closet first, making three piles: keep, give to the kids, or give away. Within a half-hour, we had slimmed down that closet by 30 percent. Then we tackled her walk-in closet. Two hours later, we had accomplished another miracle. When the deed was done, Gail remarked, "Now, I can go shopping and get those new outfits I need." You can imagine how pleased I was.
The next day, I took all the clothes we had picked out for charity, bagged them, and put them in the car. That afternoon, I dropped them off at the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) soup kitchen in Hempstead. The volunteers there were delighted to have our donation and immediately started sorting the clothing, by size and type. There's a special room at the soup kitchen, called the clothing store, where people in need can pick out whatever clothing they need-at no charge, of course.
If your closets are "too" full, please consider donating some of the clothes you no longer use so others may benefit from them. As the weather gets colder, we especially need: coats, hats, scarves, gloves, flannel shirts, pants, and any type of shoes or boots. Clothes for children as well as adults are needed.
Clothing donations can be dropped off at: 7 Lee Court West, Great Neck, NY 11024. For directions or additional information, please call: 917-418-2451 or email: davegolbert@yahoo.com. We are pleased to give you a receipt for your donation if you need one.
Your donation is an act of kindness which is much appreciated.
