Sari Levy, a senior and captain of the Great Neck North High School Girl's Fencing Team, led the North Shore Fencers Club Women's Epee Team to a third place finish in the 2008 Summer National Championships in San Jose, California. Each of the epee squad's young women had been fencing for less than three years and were making only their second appearance at "Nationals" as a team. They had notable victories over very highly ranked teams from South Carolina, Los Angeles and Oregon. They unseated two of the top Junior Teams with long standing winning records in the event. The Oregon and L.A. teams both held members of the US National Team and a Gold medalist from this year's World Championship in Italy.

Vladimir Gofman, head coach of North Shore Fencers Club, has over 40 years of fencing coaching experience. This former trainer of Russia's Olympians said, "Fencing calls for adaptability, inventiveness, good organization and patience. Our epee girls put in long hours where great attention, extreme effort and discipline in training are needed. I am very proud of them".

The team plans to compete internationally in the upcoming year.
