She and Harry were active in progressive politics and considered themselves world citizens whose responsibility was to empower themselves and their children to make a better world. Helene spent many years working with her sister, Congresswomen Bella Abzug, on things that mattered on this troubled planet. She was the matriarch of the family and never stopped questioning, reading the Times every day and watching Meet the Press.
