Temple Israel's Annual Golf and Tennis Outing has a new twist this year. In addition to a fabulous day of golf and tennis at the Fresh Meadow Country Club on Monday, July 14, a major new "sport" has been added: mah jongg. The community is invited to join in the fun.

"We started six years ago with just golf," said the co-chair of the event, Seth Horowitz. "Then we added tennis. By popular demand and at the request of a number of members, we are now adding mah jongg.

"You don't have to be a member of Temple Israel to have a great day with friends at Fresh Meadow," Mr. Horowitz said. "People can come for just the golf, the tennis or mah jongg, or stay for the full day, which includes use of the grounds and clubhouse as well as breakfast, lunch and a fabulous B-B-Q dinner."

Tennis activities will be under the supervision of Willie Notar, the tennis pro who runs programs in Great Neck Estates and at Fresh Meadow. He will oversee drills and the tournament. There will be many prizes, including tennis racquets.

Golf activities start at 11 a.m. Prizes for holes-in-one, for low gross and low net include a leased BMW, golf clubs and bags.

The mah jongg activities are being coordinated by Ellen Klig and Lori Freudman and will be held in the recently renovated Fresh Meadow Clubhouse.

The B-B-Q dinner includes grilled marinated ribeye steak, B-B-Q chicken, corned beef, pastrami, a salad bar, desserts and an open bar. Breakfast includes custom-made omelets and smoked fishes. Fresh fruit stations will be provided on the golf course and tennis courts.

The golf entry fee is $500 per player, which includes caddies and tips. The tennis entry fee is $350 per player. The mah jongg participation fee is $250 per player. All fees include all three meals.

Not playing golf, tennis or mah jongg? You are still invited to the kosher cocktail dinner. The cost is $150 per person.
