Mary M. McGlynn, of Great Neck, died on May 24, 2008. Sister of Ronnie Maloney. Aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Julia and John McGlynn and her brothers, John and Frank. She was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School and Pratt University. Her lifetime career was as the assistant to the vice president of Franklin National Bank, Great Neck. Arrangements were made by Fairchild Sons Funeral Home, Manhasset. Funeral Mass at St. Aloysius Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
Dr. Milton A. Marten, DDS, 86, of Great Neck, formerly of Roslyn Estates, died on May 29, 2008. Husband of Theadora. Father of Randi Marten and Kenneth Marten. Son of the late Abraham and Louise Tumarkin. Brother of the late Isabel Calica. Grandfather of Samantha Marten and Joshua Marten.
Dr. Marten received his AB degree at the College of Arts and Sciences, DDS at St. Louis University, certificate in Periodontics and Oral Medicine NYU College of Dentistry. A captain in the Dental Corps, USAF, he had a private general practice and practiced periodontics from 1963 to 2000. He was a retired clinical professor of periodontics, NYU College of Dentistry and retired chief of the periodontics section, NY Hospital, Queens Medical Center.
Dr. Marten was a member of ADA (QCDS), AAP, AAom, past president of the American Academy of Oral Medicine, North East Society of Periodontists and the NYS Society of Periodontics. He was a past member of the board for many years of the AT Queens County Dental Society, a member of the Executive Council and Dental Health Insurance Council of the AT American Academy of Periodontics, representing members from New York and New Jersey.
Dr. Marten's honors include: Fellow American College of Dentists, OKU, Fellow American Academy of Oral Medicine and recipient of the Dr. Hirschfeld Memorial Award, North East Society of Periodontists. Lectures and clinics presented: ADA (Las Vegas), Med Continental Congress, St. Louis, Greater NY Meeting, Greater LI Meeting, 1st District D.S., QCDS, Nassau City D.S., Temple University, CE courses at NYU.
He served as president and executive secretary of the Queens Village Chamber of Commerce and was president of the Roslyn Estates Civic Association, the Yardarm Condominium II at Westhampton Beach and president of the board of managers at Plaza 100 Condominium, Great Neck.
Arrangements were made by Riverside-Nassau North Chapels, Great Neck. Services were held on June 1 with Rabbi Richard Berman officiating. Interment Beth David Cemetery, Elmont.
Harold Alpert, 83, of Great Neck, formerly of Brooklyn, died on May 30, 2008. He was a self-employed jewelry salesman. Husband of Alice. Father of Mindy Alpert, Robert Alpert, Jonathan Alpert and David Alpert. Father-in-law of Cynthia, Lisa, Wendy and Andrea. Son of the late Jacob and Esther Alpert. Brother of the late Nettie Alpert. Grandfather of Erin, Lauren, Brian, Steven, Sam and Tony. Arrangements were made by Riverside-Nassau North Chapels, Great Neck. Services were held June 1 with Rabbi Sheila Goloboy(Port Jewish Center) officiating. Interment Beth Moses Cemetery, Pinelawn.
