Great Neck Hadassah will hold its second annual Walk-A-Thon to support Stem Cell Research on Sunday, May 18. Hadassah, which long has been associated with breakthrough medical research, hopes that efforts such as the Great Neck Walk-A-Thon will help fund research leading to new treatments and potential cures to illnesses which affect everyone.

Stem cell research is an innovative technology, and advances are happening on a daily basis. Scientists at the Hadassah Medical Organization in Israel are making great strides in their research efforts. Stem cells hold the promise of curing many diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ALS, Juvenile Diabetes and spinal cord injuries.

"We were thrilled with the support the walk received last year and the monies we were able to raise," states Ellen Domnitch, president, Great Neck Hadassah. "We are confident that this year's effort will raise the awareness of stem cell research even more and result in even greater financial support from the community."

The Great Neck Hadassah Walk-A-Thon is open to the public and runs about two miles. The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Temple Israel, 108 Old Mill Road, Great Neck. Interested participants can pre-register by calling the Hadassah office at 829-0413, and all pre-registered walkers will receive a free T-shirt. Contributions can also be made to Hadassah for those who cannot take part in the walk.
