John D. Smaidjas, a longtime Great Neck resident and firefighter in the Alert Fire Department, died on Dec. 24, 2007. He will be missed by his loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was the loving son of the late John H. and Eelen P. Smaidjas, devoted brother of Donna Faraci, Dennis M. and Laura B. Hollenzer and beloved nephew of Abbie Smaidjas. He was predeceased by his adoring grandparents John and Martha Smaidjas and Robert and Hazel Matthews.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in his memory to the Firemen's Home of NY, 125 Harry Howard Avenue, Hudson, NY 12534 or to The Alert Firemen's Benevolent Association.
