Two girls from Great Neck South High School's varsity field hockey team received a golden opportunity to play on a national team. Nicole Brown, a senior, and Samantha De Martin, a sophomore, tried out and made this elite team. The team of 16 girls is comprised of players from all over Long Island and coached by South High's health and physical education teacher Carol Nesdill. Mrs. Nesdill is also the varsity coach of the Carl Place Frogs field hockey team. The team, called the Long Island Patriots, attended the 2007 National Field Hockey Festival Tournament held in Indio, California over the Thanksgiving vacation.
