The Skyline Conference Commissioner Tracy King announced recently that Jim Driscoll, Maritime Cross Country coach, was selected as the Coach of the Year. Driscoll led his team to the 2007 Skyline Championship, the first Skyline Championship in Maritime athletic history.

Driscoll took over as head coach after the team finished third at the Massachusetts Maritime Invitational in early September. He went on to coach the team through its remaining seven events, returning with a sixth-place finish or better in four of them. Keeping his team focused for the Skyline Championships, the Privateers finished third at the St. Joseph's Invitational just one week before the championships. "The invitational was a good sign that we were peaking at the right time," commented Driscoll after the SJU Invite.

The following week, Driscoll and his team won the Skyline Championship by 14 points over Bard College. Three of his runners were named to the All-Conference Team, and one runner missed the team by only one place.

Driscoll is not new to cross country; he was the team captain for the prep team in Elmhurst, IL, when they won the National Championship. In college, he ran for the United States Naval Academy, before graduating in 1981. Currently, coach Driscoll is the commanding oficer of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Command (NROTC) at Maritime.

On winning this award, Driscoll said, "I am honored to have been selected as the Skyline cross country coach of the year, but it really is more of a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Maritime cross country team who ran so well to win the Skyline Conference title."
