Trinity College sophomore Josh Grossman of Great Neck was selected as the 2007 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Golf Player of the Year and Bantam head coach Bill Detrick (Cromwell, Conn.) was voted the 2007 NESCAC Coach of the Year. In addition, Grossman and Trinity sophomore Reid Longley (Atlanta, Ga.) were named to the 2007 All-NESCAC First Team. Grossman is the third consecutive Trinity linksman that has earned NESCAC Player of the Year honors, after George Boudria received the award in 2005 and Longley claimed both that award and the NESCAC Rookie of the Year honor in 2006.

After a +2 performance of 74 during day one in the NESCAC Championship Qualifying Tournament in late September, Grossman shaved two strokes off his first round to card the lowest score on the second day with an even 72. Detrick guided the Bantams to a first-place showing at the NESCAC Championship Qualifier, the third year in a row that Trinity has finished in the top three at the autumn NESCAC event after placing third in 2005 and second last year. Grossman's two-round score of 146 is the second best for a Trinity player this fall. He also finished third overall in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship Tournament at Elms College earlier this month, leading the Bantams to their first title in that event. Grossman is a political science major at Trinity and is the son of Ellen and Kenneth Grossman.
Longley earned first team honors for the second-straight year after finishing in a four-way tie for fourth with a score of 150 during the qualifier, as he posted a Saturday-best one-under at 71. Longley added a 149 in a fifth-place finish in the ECAC Tournament this fall. Longley is a graduate of the Taft School in Connecticut and is the son of Candace and William Longley.
In his 17th season at Trinity and at 80 years of age, Detrick has fielded a squad capable of finishing among the top 10 teams in New England each year. During the 2007 fall season, the Bantams won the Trinity Invitational, the NESCAC Championship Qualifying Tournament, and the ECAC Division III New England Championship Tournament. Trinity has earned the right to host the 2008 NESCAC Championship Tournament in April. The 2001 and the 2006 NESCAC Coach of the Year as well, Detrick came to Trinity in 1990 after a legendary tenure as head men's basketball coach at Central Connecticut State University, where the gymnasium bears his name.
