Jessica Bogia has been named assistant women's basketball coach at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, as it has been announced by head coach Michael Murray. Bogia comes to USMMA from Goldey Beacom College, where she served as an assistant coach of the women's basketball program the past two seasons and helped lead the Lady Lightning to a 12-win improvement and its best season in school history this past winter.

"We're excited to have Jessica join our staff and our program," said Murray. "She will work with our guards and be involved in all aspects of our program. Jessica has a lot of contacts nationally and will be able to hit the ground running. I know she is excited to use those contacts to help our program."

Bogia earned a master's degree in business administration this past spring while serving as an assistant coach at Goldey Beacom, a NCAA Division II college in Delaware, which competes in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Over the winter, she assisted the head coach in the development and implementation of game plans as well as breaking down game film for scouting purposes. Additionally, she coordinated film exchange with opponents. After the winter, Bogia helped coordinate summer conditioning and strength workouts for the student-athletes. Bogia also worked diligently to recruit talent in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.

After helping the team advance to the CACC playoffs for the first time in school history in 2005-06, Bogia helped guide the Lady Lightning to a school record 18 wins - a 12-win improvement from the previous season - and the CACC Semifinals in the 2006-07 season. Six of the team's 11 losses were by ten points or less.

Prior to Goldey Beacom, Bogia received her bachelor's degree in 2005 in business economics with a minor in government law at Lafayette College of the Patriot League. In 2003-05, she worked as an assistant event director for the US Junior Nationals Inc. where she was head of event operations as the site director, assisted in event scheduling and recruited players. Bogia also was an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Belles AAU squad at the 16-and-under level.

Bogia's summers were also very busy in 2004-05 where she was the Blue Star National Invitational camp director in Las Vegas and the assistant director of the Blue Star Position Camp in New Jersey.

During the school year in 2004-05, Bogia served as a Lafayette student ambassador where she was responsible for making phone calls to alumni, parents and friends and asking for pledges. For her efforts, she was recognized by the president of the college as the top student ambassador.

Bogia is a native of Hockessin, Del. She currently lives in Floral Park.
