Alvin I. Bloch, 83, a former longtime resident of Great Neck and resident of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Craftsbury Common, VT, died July 27, 2007.

Alvin was born in Brooklyn on April 13, 1924, the son of Max and Mae (Epstein) Bloch. He attended Brooklyn Technical High School, served in the U.S. Army during WWII and attended Princeton University. Alvin was married to Florence (Warshaw) for 61 years, until she passed away in 2005.

He was a professional structural engineer for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and worked on the World Trade Center. He was responsible for the design of many ports and bridges, including the George Washington Bridge, in the New York area.

After he retired, he made his home in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Craftsbury Common, VT. Surviving him are his four children, Carol Bloch and husband, Edward Schwartz of Connecticut; Michael Bloch and wife, Marie, of Colorado; Sally Marzouk and husband Ben Marzouk of Great Neck; and Nancy Milholland and husband James Milholland of Florida and six grandchildren, Zachary, Jordan, Molly, Arlin, Elias and Olivia. He was preceded in death by his wife Florence who died May 31, 2005 and his sister Estelle Crane who died July 9, 2006.
