Eleanor (Grush) Niessen, 91, died July 14, 2007 at Oak Knoll Nursing Home in Framingham, MA. She was the wife of Philip A. Niessen who died in January 1991. They were married in 1940. Born in Philadelphia, daughter of Lithuanian immigrants Adam and Vera (Palaima) Grush (Grajauskas), she graduated from Mercy Academy in Philadelphia. She received a full scholarship to Mount St. Joseph's College (now Chestnut Hill College), graduating in 1939 with a degree in economics and a minor in psychology. Mr. and Mrs. Niessen lived at Navy bases during WWII, including Sampson, NY, Farragut in Coeur d'Alene, ID, and Bremerton in Washington. During this time, she worked as a private secretary to Naval personnel. She was a homemaker in Mayfair in Philadelphia, Nutley in New Jersey and Great Neck (1954-74). After retirement, she lived in Rockport and Corpus Christi, TX, before moving to Framingham to be closer to her family. Mrs. Niessen was an avid gardener and artist, and especially loved creating floral designs in various media. She leaves her sons, Len Niessen and his wife, Pat, of Framingham and Jim Niessen of Somerset, NJ; her daughters, Pat Mayhew and her husband, Dan, of Colonial Beach, VA, and Mary Campbell and her husband, Don, of Newport, WA; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her godson and nephew, Rich Leone and his wife, Dawn, of Ventnor, N.J. She was the sister of the late Jane Frances and Edward Grush. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. No funeral services or visitations are planned. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
