The Great Neck Public Schools Board of Education adopted a revised Policy on School District Officer and Employee Code of Ethics at a meeting in late June. This revised policy, originally adopted on Dec. 21, 1971, and later amended on Jan. 1, 2004, was submitted for a first reading at the board's May 7 meeting and resubmitted for a second reading on June 4.
According to Board Trustee Fran Langsner, chair of the board's policy committee, the policy was revised again this year based on a recent change in the state's general municipal law.
This lengthy policy addresses issues such as gifts, confidential information, representation before the board, representation before the board for a contingent fee, disclosure of interest in matters before the board, investments in conflict with official duties, private employment, and future employment. Penalties are also addressed.
The change addresses "disclosure of interest in matters before the board."
The board of education is scheduled to meet next after the school district opens for the new 2007-2008 school year. The next meeting is slated for Monday, Sept. 10, 8:30 p.m., at William A. Shine-Great Neck South High School, 341 Lakeville Road in Lake Success.
