Drops of rain gave way to sunny skies during the 6th Annual Great Neck Family 5K Fun Run/Walk to benefit the Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop-University Hospital. The event, which was held on May 20, at Jonathan L. Ielpi Firefighters Park in Great Neck, attracted runners of all ages, community members and sponsors, who rallied together to raise funds for the Center's psychosocial program.
A new addition to this year's event was the creation of a wellness area that featured massages with Larry Weinberg; Reiki services by Aikido; services by chiropractor Dr. Adam Glassman; and mini-facials and make-overs provided by Great Neck's N2 Beauty Day Spa. Nutritionists, personal trainers and holistic instructors were also present to share their expertise with participants.
Following the run/walk, a festive morning filled with musical entertainment by opera singer Sandia Ang, pop singer Michelle Raitzin, flutists Amy Ziegelbaum and Lauren Ausubel and "The Duke of Yuke," arts and crafts, raffles and prizes were enjoyed by all. Participants also enjoyed a guest appearance by Nikki Blonsky, who will star in the upcoming movie Hairspray.
"This year's event was a tremendous success thanks to the hard work and devotion of the outstanding event chairs Mindy Gordon and Lore Kent, the entire Great Neck community, and all of the participants and sponsors," said Linda Sweeney, practice manager, Cancer Center for Kids.
The 6th Annual Great Neck Family 5K Fun Run/Walk to benefit Winthrop's Cancer Center for Kids would not have been possible without the support of this year's overall sponsor, Super Enterprises, and many others.
