William V. Alesi, 97, of Great Neck, died on June 3, 2007. Husband of the late Eleanore. Father of Joseph G. (Christine) and William V. II (Barbara). Grandfather of Eleanor. Shirley Friedlander, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and teacher, passed away on June 23, 2007 after a long illness. A resident of Great Neck for 50 years, she was very involved in the community. She was a substitute teacher in the Great Neck secondary schools for several decades, as well as a supporter of environmental causes and animal rights. She was also a fixture at Memorial Field; playing tennis there was one of her favorite pastimes. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, George, and her daughter, Dr. Susan Friedlander. She is survived by Merri and Mitchell Gelbard, her daughter and son-in-law, and her two grandchildren, Dr. Jonathan Gelbard and Joanna Brynn Gelbard. We all miss her very much!
