This coming Tuesday, June 19, some of us here on the Great Neck peninsula will have an opportunity to vote. Three villages --- the Village of Great Neck, the Village of Kings Point and the Village of Lake Success--- will hold elections for mayor and trustees. Only one village, the Village of Great Neck, will see any contested elections. However, all of these elections are important. And each and every election deserves our votes.
Of course, as in the Old Village, it is much easier to get out the vote when an election is contested. The residents come to the polls to be sure that their candidates come out the winners; it's very important to them.
But what about the uncontested elections? Just because a candidate is unchallenged does not mean that that person does not also deserve the support of his or her constituents. Each and every candidate, contested or not, deserves a vote to show that you think that he or she has been doing a wonderful job and should by all means continue, or it shows the new candidate that you have full confidence in his or her skills and the ability to do the job at hand.
Our local officials have really vital, very time-consuming jobs. They volunteer their time and effort to ensure the quality of life that we all enjoy here in Great Neck. They deserve our support!
If your village is holding an election on June 19, please vote. Show our village officials that we all care and that we really do appreciate the job that they are doing for us!
