  • News: East Shore Road Waterfront Development on Upswing

    Village of Great Neck officials received news last week and on May 7 that major stumbling blocks to the development of waterfront along East Shore Road may be lifted. As we were going to press, we received a call from Congressman Gary Ackerman who had just concluded a meeting with high level U.S. Postal Service representatives and a representative from Senator Hillary Clinton's office in which an agreement was reached to suspend going forward with the plans for the postal annex until July 5. During the interim, the Town of North Hempstead and the Village of Great Neck will need to come up with an alternative site that will be acceptable to the postal service and will meet its needs for carrier sorting.   • News: Sewage Solutions Sought

    During the period of time that the Village of Great Neck and the Water Pollution Control District were studying whether it would be most cost-efficient to divert their combined sewage flows to the county facility at Cedar Creek, to combine their two plants or to simply upgrade each plant separately to meet the state's requirements to drastically reduce the nitrogen in the treated effluent released into Manhasset Bay by 2014, various design elements were discussed. It became clear from the studies that upgrading each plant would be more practical, efficient and prudent. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Great Neck Bicycle Challenge May 20, 2007

    The excitement is building for the "Great Neck Bicycle Challenge of 2007," which will begin at 11 a.m. on May 20, rain or shine. Before and during the race there will be terrific free events in the Jonathan Ielpi Firefighters Memorial Park for all riders and spectators. Bring your bicycle in for a free bicycle check, courtesy of North Shore Cycles/BrickWell Multisports, then get a free autograph session with three time Olympic Bicycle Champion and author Jack Simes at 10:30 a.m., and free rider safety messages from Dr. Neil Koppel of Great Neck Wellness Health Care.   • Sports: Sixth Annual ‘Cancer Center for Kids Family Fun Walk/Run’

    Spring is bursting out all over; outdoor activities are happening all around Long Island and excitement is peaking for the sixth annual "Cancer Center for Kids Family Fun Walk/Run" on Sunday, May 20 when runners, walkers, corporate sponsors, Great Neck businesses, families, adults, teens and children of all ages will be participating in a variety of activities (along with the Walk/Run) to support the children and families at Winthrop Hospital's CCFK's. Entertainment, a "wellness area," food, raffle baskets, activities for children and more surprises will be part of our morning program. FULL STORY
