Craig Johnson Is the New State Senator From the 7th District
After a few weeks of hard and intense campaigning, the hotly contested race for the 7th District state senatorial seat was won by Democrat Craig Johnson, who defeated his opponent Republican Maureen O'Connell, 26,452 to 22,929.
In Politics, No Done Deal
Thomas P. DiNapoli's resignation from his 20-year position as Assemblyman for the 16th Assembly District took place without fanfare on Wed. Feb. 7. Later in the day, he was sworn in as the 54th person to hold the position of comptroller for the State of New York. Although a firestorm raged in the background with a spitting mad governor railing at feeling double-crossed by Speaker Sheldon Silver of the Assembly and an equally defiant state legislature having, according to the state's constitution, the last word on the matter, the promotion from assemblyman to comptroller rolled through and over the controversy.
St. Aloysius Panthers Finish Glorious Season
With three wins last week, the St. Aloysius Panthers completed the regular season in the CYO of Nassau and Suffolk Counties Fifth Grade Basketball Division with a 10-1 record.
North High Wrestlers Qualify for County Championship Tournament
On Feb.10, 11 members of the Great Neck North Varsity Wrestling team qualified for berths in the Nassau County (Section VIII) Division One Championship tournament. This number equals last year's total, tying a school record.
