Sunday evening, Jan. 14, the Great Neck "Icettes" synchronized figure skating team took home the Gold Medal at the International Skating Institute (I.S.I.) Lake Placid Championships held at the Olympic Arena. Under the fine coaching by Audra Smith and Melissa Brengel, Parkwood's Icettes won the teen division, skating to a superbly choreographed James Bond medley. Their costumes, elegant blue pinstripe suits, complimented the " 007 " theme.

The winning team includes Laurel Berkowitz, Zoe Weissman, Alanna Sobel, Brittany Green, Tracey Dolan, Samantha Levine, Leah DeEgidio, Jenna Kluger and Marissa Scheiner.

The victory, Great Neck's first in a regional competition for synchronized skating, was simulcast live on the internet, with cheering fans at home able to watch, including Parkwood's junior synchro-team, thrilled by the performance of their older counterparts' flawless performance.

The Icettes have been training at Parkwood for many months for Lake Placid with afternoon, early evening and morning practice sessions as early as 6:30 a.m.
