On Sept. 19, Great Neck Charter club presidents, Dr. Karen Siegel of the Zonta Club of Greater Queens (ZCGQ) and Massimo Guerrieri of the Rotary Club of Gold Coast-Lake Success (RCGCLS), realized the final outcome of their clubs' joint service project, R.A.V.E. (Rape and Violence Eradication) fundraising walk, held at the Clinton Martin Park, New Hyde Park, several months ago. Zonta's mission focused on enhancing the status of women worldwide.

ZCGQ 2006-08 President Mary Loughrey, just to the right of US Congressman Gary Ackerman; Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman; then Grant Siegel and several USPS workers and their retiring Supervisor Olivia Ruffin, all honored for their outstanding contributions to our "RAVE" Walk, flanked by Charter President and Area 1 Director Karen Siegel.

Walkers and sponsors helped raise enough funds to provide $4,000 to "hands on" rape and violence support organizations including CAPS (Child Abuse Prevention Services, NCCADV (Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence), Mount Sinai Hospital SAVI (Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention), and the CWNY( Center for the Women of NY). A donation of $1,000 were made to each of them, in Sept. 19 at the Zonta Club of Greater Queens meeting. It provided the opportunity to recognize the members, sponsors, walkers and the local schools involved in the R.A.V.E. Walk.
Wearing "two hats" as RAVE committee chair of the ZCGQ and partners in service committee with the RCGCLS, local Great Neck resident Grant Siegel told the audience that paraphrased that it "takes a village" to make such a big project happen. The event took the leadership, enthusiasm, capabilities, and helping hands from almost everybody in both clubs.
Sponsor of the event was the Roslyn Savings Bank in Lake Success, and Emma Wright received a plaque.
The Zonta Club of Greater Queens (ZCGQ) is planning another RAVE great event next April 2007. If you would like to be involved, be a sponsor or walker, in this important effort you can call Grant Siegel, RAVE Chair, at 487-9834.
