The varsity girls basketball team is currently 3-4 following a 53-41 loss at Carle Place. senior Rachel Harooni led all Blazers with 19 points with Senior Samantha Blye chipping in eight. The Blazers were participants in the West Hempstead Tournament and split the two games with a victory against Glen Cove. All-Tournament honors went to seniors Julianna Taney and Samantha Blye and junior Liz Shapiro. Their first game after the break is Friday, Jan. 5 on their home court against Mineola.
The varsity boys basketball is currently 2-2 and 1-0 in league play following their 54-42 victory at home against Sewanhaka. Senior Eric Hill had his best game of the season dropping 23 points and 11 rebounds. Contributions were also made by junior Ben Dorman who had 13. At press time they were set to host the Bob Morrison Tournament in the North High School gymnasium on Thursday, Dec. 28 and Friday, Dec. 29.
JV boys Bbasketball is 1-1 following a close 35-33 loss at South. The Rebels rallied from nine down in the fourth quarter to get the two-point victory. In their first game at Bethpage, the Blazers ran away with a 53-30 victory. Freshman Brandon Benilevi led all scorers with 18 points with sophomore Daniel Mardkhai chipping in 14. Their next game comes in the Bob Morrison Tournament on their home floor, set for Dec. 28 and 29.
The Blazers went 2-2 in rarely scheduled triangular double dual meets. In their first meet on Dec. 12, they were victorious against Hempstead but fell to Garden City. Six days later, they defeated Freeport while falling to Bellmore/Merrick. Contributions were made by Co-Captains Neil Epstein and Alex Benrimon, Daniel Zuller and Kevin Wu whose times in the 100-meter breaststroke, 500-meter freestyle, 50 meter-freestyle and 100-meter backstroke all qualify them for the county championships.
