United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariner tri-captains Joseph Halverson, Kyle Flynn and Matt Steinkamp were named to the 2006 National Soccer Coaches Association of America's/Adidas NCAA Division III Men's All-Metro Region teams.

Halverson, from San Antonio, Texas, was named first team goalie; while Flynn and Steinkamp were named to the second and third all region teams.

Halverson started 17 of 18 games played in the net for Merchant Marine. He marked 59 saves for the year with a .815 save percentage. He was 13-4-1 in goal for the Mariners, with eight shut outs. His only losses were at the feet of NCAA bound, Stevens Institute of Technology, Montclair State and New York University.

However, Halverson had his season most saves against both Montclair State (10, on Oct. 18) and New York University (8, Sept. 22).

In the regular season, the captain led the Skyline Conference in shutouts, and was second in the conference in save percentage (.821) and goals against average (.79). He was also ranked ninth in the Skyline in Saves per game (3.44).

Flynn, a forward from Poughquag, NY, led the Mariners in goals (7), game-winning goals (4), shots (45), and shots on goal (25) this season. He was second in points with 15. The captain started 18 of 19 games for the Blue and Gray and sits at third in the conference for game-winning goals for the regular season.

Steinkamp was a dominant force on the Mariner defense. The Roseville, CA native helped the Mariners to their number one ranking in shutouts and shutouts per game (.50) and second in goals against average (.70). The captain has started in 16 of 17 games this season, with one assist and two shots including one shot on goal.

Mariner opponents who also received NSCAA/Adidas All-Metro region first team honors were Nick Gkionis and Terrance Johnson from Stevens Tech, Nick Katsanos and Jeritt Thayer from NYU, Pat Baldiserra from Rutgers-Camden and Ryan Morgan and Bill Anthes from Montclair State.

The Mariners ended the season 14-4-1 overall and 9-1-0 in the Skyline Conference. The NSCAA ranked Merchant Marine fifth in the Metro Region at the end of the regular season.
