As Great Neck Library Director Arlene Nevens bids farewell to the post she has so admirably held these last years, as she leaves her work at our library after many, many years of valuable, dedicated service, we wish her well in her retirement and thank her so very much for the wonderful job she has done for this entire community. We will miss Arlene, really miss her, and we do regret that she felt it necessary to step down at this time.
Arlene Nevens has been a friendly face, a welcoming figure, a fountain of knowledge at the library for such a long time. The loss of Arlene will be a tremendous loss to all of us. Not only has she served as a dedicated librarian over the years, but since she assumed the directorship, she also made it her business to be at the forefront of events in the community, attending important peninsula-wide meetings, showing up at special events, even representing the library at the monthly Great Neck Village Officials Association meetings. And, always, she represented the library in a warm, easy-going manner, with lots of pertinent information at her fingertips, always happy to be there, always happy to be of service to the greater community.
If we thought we could convince Arlene to stay on, we surely would. The loss of her leadership will be a great loss to Great Neck. That we do know for certain. We highly value her good work and are fortunate to consider her a personal friend too.
Arlene, as you move on, we hope that "what goes around, comes around," and that your retirement years are as special as the service you have offered all of us all these years.
We thank you! We wish you only the very best!
