Congressman Gary Ackerman Running Unopposed for 13th Term
Incumbent Congressman Gary Ackerman is running unopposed for re-election from the fifth congressional district, which covers northwestern Nassau County from Port Washington to Williston Park, and northeastern Queens. Ackerman has served this socioeconomically and ethnically diverse district since a redistricting in 2002; he was first elected to Congress in 1983.
Official Naming of South High School on Nov. 5
Great Neck South High School will be named the William A. Shine-Great Neck South High School on Sunday, Nov. 5, at a ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. in the South High School Music Room, 341 Lakeville Road. The community is invited to join in this historic occasion to acknowledge Dr. Shine for his brilliant 22-year leadership of the Great Neck Public Schools.
Great Neck Grizzlies Advance in State Cup
On a bright and sunny Sunday morning in Great Neck, 16 Grizzlies, participated in a fierce game of soccer. The 11-year-old Grizzlies played with attitude and determination on the Great Neck North High School field, leading them to a powerful 3-0 victory against Oceanside. The Grizzlies have been practicing twice a week, and evidently their hard work is beginning to pay off under the leadership of co-managers, Tony Mirkov and Don Haber and trainer "Tarl."
Great Neck Road Runners: A Dsappointed Loss
The Road Runners had a disappointing day on the soccer field as they lost to Village of Branch in a 2-0 game. After a three-week hiatus, 16 players showed up ready to play. The two teams battled hard and played a tight match against each other until the last 10 minutes, when VOB managed to score 2 goals within minutes of each other. The Road Runners played vigorously and with determination, unfortunately the break definitely had its effects on them. VOB turned out to be a tough challenge for the Road Runners.
