Junior defender Chris Nitta was named to the Skyline Conference Honor Roll for his part in aiding the United States Merchant Marine Academy Soccer Mariners to two shutout victories last week.
Nitta and his fellow defenders have done a fabulous job keeping pressure on the opposition in pursuit to the net. As a result of their success, senior Joseph Halverson ranks among the top goalkeepers in the nation and the Mariners have seven shutout victories to their credit entering the fifth week of the season.
Individually, several Mariners rank as statistical leaders in the conference. Senior Kyle Flynn continues to rank first in game-winning goals (3) with a 0.33 per game average. Freshman Clint Foster ranks third in the category with a 0.25 average. Halverson ranks first in goals against average (0.52), shutouts (0.75) second in saveer percentage (.897) and seventh in saver per game (4.38).
As a unit, the Mariners rank first in scoring defense allowing an average of just 0.45 goals per game. USMMA is fifth in scoring offense with a 2.33 goals per game average.
