Parkwood Bond Issue Goes to Town
At the conclusion of the two-and-a-half hour bond hearing on Sept. 19 conducted by the Great Neck Park District in which a stream of residents were heard on the proposal for a $16.4 million capital improvements bond issue for the rehabilitation and upgrade of the Parkwood Complex, the board of commissioners voted unanimously in favor of the plan. The majority of the residents in attendance who spoke were in support of the bond issue. The next step will be another public hearing conducted by the Town of North Hempstead, probably sometime in October, although the exact date has not been set.

A Series: Questions for Library Trustee Candidates
In an effort to learn more about the candidates for the positions of trustees at the Great Neck Library, the Great Neck Record will pose one or two questions to each candidate each week up until the election on Oct. 30. This week our question was: "Imagine that you were already serving as a member of the library board at last night's meeting (Sept. 19) and addressing any one topic that came up, what would you have done differently? What impact would you have tried to make on the proceedings? Be specific about how you would have tried to accomplish that."

United States Merchant Marine Academy senior forward Kyle Flynn was named Skyline Conference Player of the Week for his performance in helping the Soccer Mariners remain unbeaten in league play.

Town BTDC Sponsors Golf Outing
Town of North Hempstead Business and Tourism Development Corporation Executive Director Leslie Gross announced that the BTDC would hold its inaugural golf outing at the Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington on Monday, Oct. 16. Gross said: "I'm pleased to announce this event, and even more pleased that we will use this opportunity to honor Anne Prokop, the Principal of the Greek American Institute and a well-known philanthropist. Since the BTDC will reinvest all of the profits from this outing back into North Hempstead's communities through beautification and revitalization grants," Gross added, "this is a great opportunity for those who like to play golf to enjoy a wonderful day at a world-class facility while at the same time making a contribution to our town's communities."
