NC Majority Legislators Approve Megan's Law Helpline
Nassau County Legislator Lisanne Altmann (D-Great Neck), joined by her fellow Nassau lawmakers, recently approved $100,000 in funding to assist Parents for Megan's Law, Inc. in its goal to prevent and treat cases of child sexual abuse. Parents for Megan's Law, Inc. will work closely with the Nassau County Police Department to help with education, advocacy, referrals, policy and legislative support services.
Spotlight on Great Neck Library
The story behind the retirement/resignation of Arlene Nevens from the position of director of the Great Neck Library has continued to unfold as library board members and library activists have gone "on the record" and "off the record" to explain the rationale behind the actions taken that may have played a factor in Ms. Nevens' decision to leave the post at this time.
New Wheelchair Softball Field
At ceremonies held on field 4 at Eisenhower Park yesterday, County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi dedicated a new wheelchair softball field. The first of its kind in Nassau County, the field is the home field for the Nassau County Aviators, a wheelchair softball team established in 2004.
Kids Golf Outing to Benefit CMF
Children's Medical Fund of New York has been named the new benefactor for the Kids Golf for Kids Charities' 3rd annual Outing (www.kidsgolf4kidscharities.com). Kids Golf is an organization that was started two years ago in 2004 by Brian Burstein, 19 and David Burstein 16, of Lake Success.
