Great Neck House Celebrates 100 Years!
As the Great Neck Park District celebrates the 100th anniversary of historic Great Neck House, Park Board Chair Robert Lincoln told the audience at the anniversary celebration on July 9 that "One hundred years ago there was a vision and a need for this community," and Great Neck House was built as a library. Eventually the building became a community recreation center and today stands proud as an integral part of the park district.
Olive Branch Extended at Old Village Meeting
At the July 10 meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Great Neck, traditionally a meeting that is organizational in nature, Deputy Mayor Ralph Krietzman presided in Mayor Richard Deem's absence. This is the meeting at the beginning of the village's fiscal year in which appointments for the various village boards/committees and employee positions are made.
Coast Guard Auxiliary: "water toys" are not
Concerned about recent deaths and injuries reported in New York and California, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary wants to remind boaters that so called "water toys" --- Personal Watercraft (PWCs), tube toys, wakeboards and waterskis - are not toys at all, and failure to exercise proper safety precautions while using them can result in severe injury or even death.
Weekday Sunrise Cycling
Great Neck cycling enthusiasts are invited to meet at 6 a.m., Monday through Friday, at the corner of Grace Avenue and Bond Street, for one-and-a-quarter hour local bicycle rides, at a minimum average speed of 13 mph. Routes and distances vary according to the group; rain cancels the ride. The rides continue until November.
