The Great Neck Park District is proud to present The Lovin' Spoonful in concert at Steppingstone Performing Arts Waterside Theatre on Saturday, July 8 at 8 p.m. Join us as we step back to the 1960s with hits such as Do You Believe In Magic?, Daydream, You Didn't Have To Be So Nice and many more! The remaining members of the Lovin' Spoonful, are Steve Boone, Joe Butler and Jerry Yester. They will mix the best of rock n' roll, folk and a touch of country to give you a heaping taste of nostalgia through their chart-topping tunes of that period.
On Sunday, July 9 at 8 p.m., get your toes tapping with Klezmer musician Howard Leshaw and The Golden Klezmer Orchestra. Are you interested in the stars? Join the members of the Astronomy Club for an evening of planet and star-gazing. July 6, 13 and 27 meet at Kings Point Park athletic field (Redbrook Road entrance) from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Mars, Saturn and Mercury will all be visible around dusk in early July. Later in the month, bright Jupiter, with its four visible moons, will make its appearance. Those attending will also look for the "Summer Triangle"; three bright stars enclosing the Northern Cross. All are welcome to attend these "star parties." Keep your eyes open for the mobile rec van, bringing fun, entertainment and craft projects to children in the neighborhood parks three days a week! The rec van will show up every Tuesday at Wyngate Park (on Shoreward Drive, between Gilchrest Road and Wycham Place), from 1 to 3 p.m. and Allenwood Park after that, from 4 to 6 p.m. On Wednesdays, the van is at Thomaston Park (Susquehanna Avenue) from 1 to 3 p.m. and Manor Park (Cumberland Avenue) from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursdays, from 1 to 3 p.m., the van is at Firefighters Park (Grace Avenue) and from 4 to 6 p.m., Cuttermill Park, Great Neck Road. There will be different weekly themes, such as Wild West, In the Jungle, Medieval Times and more! The fun never ends in the Park District!

If you are looking for something different to do this summer or you just happen to love boating, come on down to the Steppingstone Park Marina and rent a kayak! Kayaks can be rented by the hour, half/full days or by the week. Children 9 through 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent. All renters must demonstrate an ability to handle a kayak. The Parkwatch program is composed of observant residents willing to report vandalism and suspicious behavior occurring in the parks after dark. Please help to keep your parks and facilities in top shape by calling and reporting such activity to park security at 504-GNPD (504-4673). (For emergencies and to report a crime in progress, residents should still call 911.)
The Recreation Center at Parkwood Pool has an exciting program lined up for people of all ages. There will be some special events for children including a Magic Show, Tuesday, July 11 at 2 p.m.
There will be some big late night events which include Teen Night on July 13, Singles Night on July 27 and The Back to School Bash on Aug. 24.
Every Sunday there will be adult games at the pool; volleyball at 2 p.m., adult water basketball at 3 p.m. and adult basketball in the rec center at 4 p.m. Every Tuesday and Friday at 1 p.m. the recreation staff will come up with games for the seniors, in the area in which they play bridge.
Beginning June 17 and running through Labor Day the center will open at 11 am.
